Bahrain Travel Guide
Best time to visit
The best time to visit Bahrain is during the cooler months, from November to March, when temperatures range from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). This period offers pleasant weather ideal for exploring the country’s attractions and outdoor activities. Summer (June to September) can be extremely hot and humid, with temperatures often exceeding 40°C (104°F), making it less comfortable for travel. The shoulder seasons of spring (April to May) and autumn (October) also offer milder weather, though it can still be quite warm.
What to expect
Language: The official language of Bahrain is Arabic. English is widely spoken and understood, especially in business, tourism, and government sectors. Many Bahrainis are bilingual, and you will also find speakers of Urdu, Farsi, and Hindi due to the diverse expatriate community.
Currency: The official currency of Bahrain is the Bahraini Dinar (BHD).
Safety: Bahrain is generally considered safe for travelers. The crime rate is relatively low, but it's always important to remain vigilant, especially in crowded places and tourist areas. Petty crimes, such as pickpocketing and bag snatching, can occur. Political demonstrations can happen, so it’s wise to stay informed about the local situation and avoid large gatherings or protests.
Cuisine: Bahraini cuisine reflects a blend of Middle Eastern, Indian, Persian, and Mediterranean influences. Some popular dishes include: Machboos: A spiced rice dish with meat (usually chicken, lamb, or fish) cooked with a blend of spices and often garnished with fried onions and nuts. Muhammar: Sweet rice typically served with fish. Ghoozi: A whole roasted lamb stuffed with rice, eggs, and other ingredients, often served at special occasions. Samboosa: A pastry filled with meat, vegetables, or cheese, similar to Indian samosas. Biryani: A flavorful rice dish cooked with meat and spices, influenced by Indian cuisine. Halwa Bahraini: A traditional sweet made from cornstarch, saffron, rose water, and nuts.
